Saturday Snapshots + Five Years on Facebook

Today marks my 5th Facebook Anniversary. We’ve been through a lot through these past five years, Facebook and I. The classic love/hate relationship.

As it was back on September 29, 2007 it is still today: the constant debate about how much business owners should post on their personal profiles. Many entrepreneurial friends treat Facebook similar to how I do: my life is my business, my business is my life, and we’ll share little bits and pieces of both with you here and there… some we share with more than others (see my post on Facebook Lists).

I share snapshots of my life, and of my work. My work is my life, my life is my work. They are intertwined, and I personally could not exist (nor be nearly as productive) any other way. I refuse to be someone else in one situation versus another. That said, sometimes I think people forget that what you see on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, Google+, LinkedIn… those truly are just snapshots, literally and figuratively, from maybe about 30% of my daily life. In the past five years on Facebook, I’ve struggled with not sharing enough, sharing too much, sharing with the wrong people… while it will never be a perfect process, I know that all I can do is share from the heart, and trust that others will receive it with care and respect.

And this brings us to today. Today was a good Saturday.

The anniversary of my fifth year on Facebook was a welcome treat of a day filled with family fun time after an extremely exhausting, challenging, exhilarating week. September has been one non-stop, insanely fast-moving, excruciatingly demanding, exciting adventure, and while I am truly grateful for all this month has brought to me and my family, I have been desperately in need of a break.

We started the morning by heading to Sherwood Orchards, where we picked buckets full of apples, plus a couple of pears.

If you have recipes that you love, I would so appreciate you sharing them here in the comments. I am always looking for more ways to incorporate fruit into daily cooking & baking fun!

In the afternoon, we took advantage of Smithsonian’s Museum Day and headed to the Portland Art Museum. It was a trip a long time in the coming.

Although our kids were clearly not as appreciative of our attempts to explain the artwork and ask them involved questions, it was such the soul-waking experience I didn’t even realize I needed until we had left. I miss being surrounded by art in the workplace and need to remember to make more art myself.

Art like the piece above moves me, inspires me, makes me question, which in turn makes me produce better work. Art feeds me. I need to remember this.

Then we headed to pick up some ingredients for a quick dinner from our local market, and headed home to do another Insanity workout.

I hate working out. It makes me cranky. But I will do it if the whole family is working out, and it is actually really motivating to have the kids there attempting all of the workout with us.

Now the kids are sleeping. Hubby and I are enjoying a nice, crisp Oregon Pinot Gris, and setting in for some chill-out TV time before the busyness storm rides again tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I work again. A full, crazy busy workload is waiting for me. Work that I love, and work I look forward to diving into.

But that’s tomorrow. This is still today, and it was a good Saturday.

How was your Saturday?
